Who will be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback in 2025? We may be getting closer to getting the answer.
In 2023, the Steelers had former first-round pick Kenny Pickett operating the offense. Last season, the Steelers turned to a combination of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Yet, now both quarterbacks have expiring contracts. So, who’s likely to take over in Pittsburgh in 2025?

Justin Fields will ‘in all likelihood’ be the next Pittsburgh Steelers starting QB

It’s still too early in the offseason to say for sure who will be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback next season. With NFL free agency plus the 2025 NFL Draft yet to play out, the Steelers could turn to a number of options.
Yet, if we ask the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac who the Steelers’ starting quarterback will be in 2025, he’d tell us Justin Fields.
“Wilson was brought here to help end the playoff victory drought, and it didn’t happen. Bringing in another veteran quarterback does not make sense. That’s why Fields, in all likelihood, will be given the job. He’s only 25, and he showed big development from his stay in Chicago.”

Unless a more obvious solution emerges, bringing Fields back makes a lot of sense for Pittsburgh. He’s bound to receive interest from other teams interested in a quarterback with mobility plus a high ceiling. Yet, the Steelers already like what he offered both on the field and in the locker room.
Perhaps the biggest question now is whether he’ll return as the unquestioned starter, or if he’ll face stiff competition for the second season in a row.
