After six consecutive playoff appearances, the Buffalo Bills are still looking for a way to get past the AFC Conference Championship. As long as reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen is in the picture, the Bills will remain contenders, but general manager Brandon Beane now faces the annual challenge of trying to maintain a great roster while adding impact players who can become difference-makers when it matters most.

NFL free agency begins on Wednesday, March 12, at 4:00 PM ET, and insiders are already discussing the Bills’ top priorities.

Buffalo Bills want more speed, add a No. 1 WR

The Buffalo Bills came only four points away from defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship and having a chance to play the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. They’re not that far away from reaching their goals. But how do they get there?

Recently, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer speculated on two specific areas the Bills are expected to prioritize this offseason, including a potential star acquisition.

“I think there will be an effort to get faster on defense. I could see GM Brandon Beane being involved if a true No. 1 receiver becomes available, but it’s hard to predict whether that’ll happen. What I will say is they’re in a better situation cap-wise now after taking on a bunch of dead money last year.”

A No. 1 receiver has just become available, with two-time Pro Bowler DK Metcalf requesting a trade from the Seattle Seahawks. He’s recorded three 1,000-yard seasons and is just 27 years old, fitting the Bills’ needs perfectly.

Despite making their third straight Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs need to desperately upgrade their offense ahead of the 2025 season.

The Chiefs finished 17th in average yards per game (327.6), 17th in points per game (22.6), and 14th in passing yards per game (222.4). The Chiefs didn’t have any 1,000-yard receivers, with the closest being tight end Travis Kelce at 823. Xavier Worthy had the most receiving yards among wide receivers at 638. And including the playoffs, the Chiefs only scored at least 30 points three times.

On top of improving the offensive line after Patrick Mahomes was sacked 36 times — the most in his career — the Chiefs need to find a legit playmaker.

That’s why one NFL insider predicts the Chiefs will sign a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver to help Mahomes.

NFL insider: Kansas City Chiefs will add Stefon Diggs in offseason

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz believes the Chiefs will sign wide receiver Stefon Diggs to give Mahomes and the offense a playmaker they badly need.

Coming over from the Buffalo Bills, Diggs ended up playing just eight games for the Houston Texans in 2024 after suffering a torn ACL. However, before that, he had six straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

“With a number of free agent wide receivers ready to depart, the Chiefs need a veteran who can play on the outside opposite Xavier Worthy after Rashee Rice returns to the slot. Diggs should be recovered for the start of the 2025 season after suffering a torn ACL in Week 8. He had a positive DVOA for the Texans before his injury and was on pace for another 1,000-yard season,” Schatz wrote.

Five wide receivers are free agents — DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, and Mecole Hardman — so the Chiefs will need to remake their receiving corps. Adding Diggs would make a good start.

Over 10 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Bills, and Texans, Diggs has 857 receptions for 10,491 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns. He was named All-Pro in 2020.

Somehow, some way, the Buffalo Bills need to find a way to get past the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of their AFC conference rivals. Sure, Josh Allen got some hard-earned hardware this offseason, but he’d likely tell you his true preference is to hoist a Lombardi Trophy.

This offseason will present the Bills with several opportunities to upgrade the roster. They may even be eyeing a blockbuster trade.

Fire up the Myles Garrett to Buffalo Bills trade rumors?

As good as reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen is, he can’t put the whole team on his back, each and every week. The same can be said for Myles Garrett on the Cleveland Browns’ defense, only now the former Defensive Player of the Year wants a trade to a contender.

Recently, the Buffalo Bills insider from The Athletic, Joe Buscaglia noted that the expected Von Miller departure could open up just enough cap space to pursue a blockbuster trade for someone like Garrett.

The Bills have an incredibly interesting offseason on the way, without many key free agents, but having easy ways to access the most cap space they’ve had since 2022. They also know how close they were to finally getting past the Chiefs and into the Super Bowl last year. The last time the Bills felt they were this close to getting over the top in the postseason, they signed free-agent edge rusher Von Miller to a massive contract. With their defense letting them down in the AFC Championship Game, will that help facilitate their interest in Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett or some other big-name defender? Although the Bills likely won’t come out and proclaim their interest in Garrett, looking for signs of them going for a big move this offseason will be the biggest thing to track in Indianapolis.”

Teams are likely making offers, but the Browns have been adamant that they have no plans to trade Garrett this offseason or any time soon. Being that he’s Cleveland’s best player, it’s understandable that they’re not in a rush to remove him from the roster.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is on top of the world. He posted his best season under center in 2024, was named NFL MVP, and got engaged to girlfriend Hailee Steinfeld. Now that the season is over, the actress is sharing more details about the proposal, calling it “magical.”

In an interview with WhoWhatWear, the 28-year-old Steinfeld offered a peek into a relationship normally kept private. She says she was surprised by the proposal, fully “blacked out” while Allen was asking her to marry him, and that Allen had the foresight to make sure she dressed up for the occasion. “I’m so grateful that he did it the way he did so that I looked good, and we have these photos that we’ll have and cherish for the rest of our lives that I’m not looking at being like, ‘What was I wearing?'” she told the outlet. “We were in Malibu, which is my happy place, and it was magical. That’s the word,” she says.

“I thought we were going on a little date night and it just so happened to be that the dress matched the flowers in this beautiful set up,” she added. “I want to make a wallpaper out of this photo and put it in my room.”

Steinfeld also spoke to why she and Allen choose to keep their relationship away from the public eye. “When you realize that so much is already out there in every other aspect of your life, you really learn to cherish the little that isn’t,” she said. “It just makes things extra special, and it’s just for you.”

She also took a minute to roast the Bills’ AFC rivals. When asked to name all the teams in the division, Steinfeld said: ““You got the Buffalo Bills and the Bills’ three sons,” while counting on her fingers, referring to the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. Clearly, she’s proud of her MVP fiance.

Once again, the Buffalo Bills fell just short of their goals by being eliminated in the AFC Conference Championship. The good news is, with Josh Allen under contract through 2028, Buffalo likely isn’t taking a big step back any time soon.

However, that doesn’t mean Bills general manager Brandon Beane won’t have to make some significant roster changes in the offseason ahead. That could even include parting ways with a potential future Hall of Famer.

Buffalo Bills expected to cut bait with Von Miller this offseason

When Von Miller joined the Buffalo Bills in 2022, he thought he was poised to play on a team on the brink of a Super Bowl appearance. Three seasons later, Miller and the Bills have yet to reach the championship stage.

Miller was viewed as the potential final piece to the puzzle in Buffalo, but he’s tallied just 14 sacks in 36 games. The three-time All-Pro signed a six-year, $120 million contract with the Bills in 2022; now, he has three seasons remaining and a cap hit of $23.8 million in 2025.

However, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News expects the Bills will release Miller as a post-June 1 cap casualty, saving $14.77 million in the process.

“The Bills need to create salary cap space, and parting with Miller is by far the easiest way to do it. If they designate Miller as a post-June 1 cut under salary cap rules (spreading out the cap hit over two years), they can drop his cap figure down to $6.37 million and save $14.77 million on the cap. If they release him without the June 1 designation in March, it’s an $8.4 million savings. Could Miller accept a pay cut? Sure. But it’s hard to imagine a $14 million pay cut.”

Miller played in 13 games last season but didn’t make any starts while generating six sacks. He only played 33% of the team’s defensive snaps, which totaled 279 plays.

In other words, the Bills can likely find a better use of the over $20 million Miller is set to receive in 2025.

NFL MVP winner Josh Allen led the Buffalo Bills to the league’s second-highest-scoring offense this past season, averaging 30.9 points per game. They did so without a true No. 1 receiver after trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans last offseason.

Yet, it didn’t seem to matter. The Bills did better than last season, improving their win total from 11 to 13 and advancing from a Divisional Round exit to reaching the AFC Conference Championship. However, the Bills have their sights set on bigger goals, so what they accomplished last season isn’t good enough.

Don’t rule out the Buffalo Bills pursuing Tee Higgins

Khalil Shakir led the Buffalo Bills with 821 receiving yards last season. The 25-year-old will return in 2025, but one player whose future with the team is uncertain is Amari Cooper, who’s set for free agency.

The Bills could look to upgrade from the soon-to-be 31-year-old, who was held to 297 yards and two touchdowns in four starts and eight games after being traded to Buffalo. If there’s enough room in the budget, the Bills may even chase after arguably the best player on the NFL free agency market.

Recently, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer was asked how the Bills can take the next step with their roster this offseason, and he believes the team should prioritize finding a No. 1 receiver again.

I think you try your best to find a No. 1 receiver. Two, you improve your speed on defense.

“To that end, I wouldn’t rule out the idea of the Buffalo Bills pursuing Tee Higgins. Now, I’d bet there would be limits on how far they’d go, but adding a real No. 1, assuming you project Higgins to be that away from Ja’Marr Chase, would allow for you to slot guys such as Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, James Cook and Dalton Kincaid into roles that would make the group, as a whole, a real problem. And if you do that, I think then the Bills can drill down in the draft on getting faster on defense.”

Adding Higgins would not only help the Bills win individual matchups on the field, signing him would also take away from one of their top competitors in the AFC by removing a star player from the Cincinnati Bengals’ roster. While Higgins may prefer to stay in Cincinnati, the attraction of being able to become the top target in Buffalo could be too enticing to pass up.

A new report has revealed what a Deebo Samuel trade will now cost teams like the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers this offseason.

With Super Bowl 59 in the rearview, the football world is now focused on the NFL offseason. As usual, for teams looking to improve their rosters free agency and the NFL Draft are two favorable options. However, there is also the trade market.

The only drawback, of course, is to get a good player on the trade block a team has to give up assets. One high-impact player who could be on the move in the coming weeks is San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel. The one-time Pro Bowler requested a trade this month and teams like the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and Los Angeles Chargers are considered potential landing spots.

A year ago the wide receiver was linked to various trade rumors and seen as one of the better pass catchers in the game. However, after another disappointing season in 2024, interested teams are not going to have to give up premium draft picks to land him in a trade.

New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers will only have to give up a Day 3 pick for Deebo Samuel

“Finding a comp for Samuel is difficult in large part because Samuel isn’t a traditional receiver,” ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler wrote this week. “When the Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans last April, the Bills received a 2025 second-round pick. At the time, Diggs was coming off a 107-catch, 1,183-yard, eight-touchdown season.

“Samuel is coming off a down year. And is entering the final year of his contract with other top receivers set to be available in free agency or trade. A Day 3 draft pick and perhaps another late-round pick would probably satisfy the 49ers,” he claimed. “If there isn’t much of a trade market, the Niners might have to settle for less unless they package picks with Samuel.”

Deebo Samuel contract: Three years, $71.5 million

Samuel is only 29, and if healthy another Pro Bowl season is very possible in 2025. A Day 3 pick or two isn’t a terrible cost for WR-needy teams like the Patriots, Chargers, and Bills.

Once again, the Buffalo Bills fell short of their Super Bowl aspirations. They’re in the same boat as 31 other teams, but the Bills feel like they’re much closer than most teams are to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

However, that doesn’t mean Bills general manager Brandon Beane won’t be aggressive in targeting roster upgrades on both sides of the ball. One of them could even be aimed at getting Josh Allen another big-name receiver.

Buffalo Bills mentioned as top trade fit for Deebo Samuel

While the Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs last offseason, they could use the saved cap space to target another former All-Pro receiver this offseason.

One player who’s already known to be available is San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowl receiver/runner Deebo Samuel. The 49ers need to cut costs, and Samuel’s $15.8 million cap hit is too rich for San Francisco’s blood.

The 49ers will be trading Samuel this offseason, it’s only a matter of finding a respectable offer.

Meanwhile, NBC Sports’ 49ers insider Matt Maiocco has named the Bills as one of the top five trade fits for Samuel.

“Josh Allen isn’t surrounded by many offensive playmakers, making Samuel a good fit because of his ability to help as a receiver and rusher. Opposing defenses cannot play a steady diet of man coverage against Buffalo. If defenders are running with their backs turned, it opens huge lanes for Allen to run. Samuel is at his best against zone coverages, and that is a good fit for what the Bills need for their offense. Slot receiver Khalil Shakir caught 76 passes for 821 yards last season. Their next-best wide receiver was Mack Hollins, who had 31 receptions for 378 yards and five touchdowns.”

Samuel is coming off a season in which he recorded 670 receiving yards and 136 more as a rusher. He hasn’t had a season with 1,000 receiving yards since 2021, yet that doesn’t mean he can’t be a solid complementary receiver in Buffalo.
