Cincinnati Bengals set ‘crazy’ asking price in Tee Higgins trade, update on Trey Hendrickson asking price

The Cincinnati Bengals have a collection of high-priced superstars. Two of them, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson, are looking for new contracts. Higgins has been slapped with the franchise tag for the second year in a row and the Bengals are eager to work out a long-term extension with their 6-foot-4 wide receiver.

Hendrickson, on the other hand, is the NFL’s reigning sack leader, and he’s seeking a pay raise over the $15.8 million salary he’s set to make in 2025. Yet, Hendrickson has requested a trade and the Bengals intend to honor the All-Pro pass-rusher’s request.

However, just because Hendrickson is on the trade block, it doesn’t mean that he can be acquired easily. Higgins isn’t even on the trade block, but the Bengals haven’t been able to reach a long-term extension with him either, which has teams inquiring about his potential trade cost too.

No one really expects the Cincinnati Bengals to trade Tee Higgins this offseason. Trey Hendrickson is a different story.

Already on the trade block, the Bengals will try getting as much as possible for the four-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher, but it may not be what they expect.

According to NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe, the current trade market for Higgins and Hendrickson is a bit out of control.

“I did check in with a couple rival teams around the league and see what Tee Higgins’ market is looking like. I was told the asking price was ‘crazy, very high.’

I also checked with some teams and was told the asking price for Trey Hendrickson is very high, the Bengals are asking for a first-round pick and more. Teams are waiting that out, hoping the market drops a bit.”

The Bengals already hold the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. If they can’t secure another first-round selection by trading Hendrickson, then perhaps they’d prefer to package No. 17 plus Hendrickson in a bigger trade up the draft board.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders and New England Patriots are among the teams in the market for offensive line help heading into NFL free agency. With Trey Smith and Ronnie Stanley off the board, clubs are turning their focus to another veteran option poised to hit the open market.

Kansas City prevented Smith from hitting free agency, applying the franchise tag to him which he signed on Sunday. However, it forced the club to trade All-Pro guard Joe Thuney and there’s still a glaring need at offensive tackle. Meanwhile, the Patriots, Commanders and Cincinnati Bengals are also looking for help at both offensive tackle and guard

There are plenty of options available at both spots. At offensive tackle, Cam Robinson is the best option with quality starters like Patrick Mekari, Dan Moore Jr., Tyron Smith and Jedrick Willis behind him. At guard, Will Fries is the best player available with Teven Jenkins, Mekhi Becton and Kevin Zeitler close behind. However, a veteran option has popped up in NFL rumors as a veteran option.

According to The Athletic‘s senior NFL reporter Dianna Russini, the Chiefs, Commanders, Patriots and Bengals have all shown interest in signing offensive tackle Morgan Moses

Moses, age 34, spent last season with the New York Jets. The 6-foot-6 offensive tackle started 14 games at right tackle, rating as one of the best pass protectors at his position. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just 2 sacks and 16 total pressures in 467 pass-blocking snaps last season. He’s also been a very good run blocker before the 2024 campaign.

New York also wants to re-sign Moses, but the number of suitors involved might complicate matters. If he wants to compete for a championship, the Chiefs, Bengals and Commanders all offer a more viable path to the Super Bowl. If he’s looking for the biggest payday possible, Washington and New England have the most cap space in the NFL.

Moses has spent his entire career at right tackle and would fill an obvious need for the Patriots, Bengals, Commanders, Patriots and Jets. Kansas City is a more interesting destination. Jawaan Taylor is currently the team’s right tackle, but he’s largely been a liability. While he could be benched in favor of Moses, that would mean carrying a $27.391 million cap hit on a player to serve as a reserve next season. It would still be an upgrade for the Chiefs offensive line, but it would come with a hefty cost.

The Cincinnati Bengals prevented wide receiver Tee Higgins from reaching NFL free agency by using the franchise tag on him for the second consecutive year. However, that decision could come at the cost of losing edge rusher Trey Hendrickson who surfaced in NFL rumors this week.

Hendrickson, a reigning Defensive Player of the Year finalist, is entering the last year of his contract. He briefly held out last summer in search of a long-term extension but the two sides never came close to a deal. Nearly a year later, the Bengals permitted him to seek a trade.

The 30-year-old edge rusher’s trade value is at an all-time high. He set career-highs in pressures (54) and quarterback hits (36) last season, leading the league in sacks (17.5). As the lone bright spot on one of the league’s worst defenses, he earned first-team All-Pro honors and finished second in DPOY voting. Now he’s looking for a new team.

According to FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons had already been monitoring Hendrickson’s situation in Cincinnati. Now that the Pro Bowl pass rusher can explore a trade to another team, Atlanta and Washington are expected to pursue a deal for him.

Other clubs – Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots – could also get involved. For now, the Falcons and Commanders are the only clubs actively linked in NFL rumors to a potential deal. This situation is also unlikely to play out as Matthew Stafford’s did with the Los Angeles Rams.

The Bengals simply don’t have the financial flexibility to have Hendrickson, Higgins, Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase signed to market-setting contracts. It appears Cincinnati has chosen which of its core players it will be prioritizing, which could lead to Hendrickson being moved ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Any contending team in need of an edge rusher should be viewed as a potential landing spot for Trey Hendrickson this offseason. Though, they should be ready to make the 30-year-old one of the NFL’s highest-paid defenders too.

However, in the instant aftermath of the trade request, ESPN’s Mina Kimes rattled off a list of five quick teams who could make sense to land Hendrickson this offseason. In doing so, she named the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, and Atlanta Falcons.

This doesn’t seem to be Kimes working off any specific intel, just her connecting the dots on which teams should be in the mix for Hendrickson.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is looking to reset the market and become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.

Chase, a four-time Pro Bowler, is in the last year of his rookie contract that will pay him $21.8 million in 2025.

With Chase’s free agency looming, the Bengals don’t want to let one of the best playmakers in the league get away and are working on a contract extension with him. However, he’s not the only wide receiver the franchise is looking to keep as 26-year-old Tee Higgins is a free agent. The Bengals used the franchise tag on Higgins in 2024 and could do the same again this year, though they prefer to get a long-term deal done.

The Bengals currently have $61.5 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that the Bengals have made an offer to Chase’s camp, but they haven’t come close to what the wide receiver wants.

“An offer has been made by Cincinnati, but the two sides remain far apart in talks for now,” Russini notes.

There’s still plenty of time to get a deal done, but it is worrisome that they remain “far apart” regarding money. If the Bengals aren’t willing to back up the Brinks truck for Chase, Cincinnati’s future would look dim without Joe Burrow throwing to one of the top receivers in the NFL.

Chase is coming off an All-Pro season where he led the league in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,708), receiving touchdowns (17), and receiving yards per game (100.5). Over four seasons with Cincinnati, Chase has accumulated 395 catches for 5,425 receiving yards and 46 touchdowns.

A new NFL rumor suggests the Cincinnati Bengals are going to crush the previous receiver contract record in a new extension for Pro Bowler Ja’Marr Chase.

The Bengals have returned to relevancy over the last few years due to the immense talent of their offense led by top star Joe Burrow. It helped lead them to the Super Bowl in 2021 and then back to the AFC Conference Championship the following year.

However, the bill is coming due on the talented weapons at Burrow’s disposal. Tee Higgins is eligible to hit free agency this offseason. But the team looked to avert his departure on the open market when they slapped the franchise tag on him this week for a second year. Most expect it will lead to a new contract that could fetch the 26-year-old an annual rate of $30 million.

But fellow receiver Ja’Marr Chase is now entering the final year of his contract as well. After a record-setting season as he won the NFL receiver triple crown, he stands to get a huge raise very soon. On Wednesday, FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed what Chase is likely to get in a new deal, and it is an obscene amount.

“Chase, as I’ve reported, was very, very close to getting a deal done before last season began. In fact, multiple sources familiar with the negotiations say that the 2024 triple-crown winner was even willing to sit out the team’s first couple of games,” Schultz wrote. “Ultimately, Chase chose to play and now Cincinnati is staring at the league’s first $40 million wide receiver. That’s right: Chase will command at least $40 million per season.”

The highest-paid wide receiver in 2024 was Minnesota Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson. Chase could potentially average $5 million more in a new deal, and just $6 million less than Burrow. Within the next year, the Cincinnati Bengals could be paying three players on offense as much as $116 million per season.

It is a stunning amount for a franchise that was one of the least valuable in the NFL in Forbes’ recent rankings.

Last offseason, the Cincinnati Bengals were facing a couple of tough decisions on Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins. The Bengals managed to sign Burrow to a five-year, $275 million extension, but his future in Cincinnati was never in doubt.

Higgins was a different story, especially since he plays second fiddle to fellow star receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Plus, unlike Burrow, Higgins was already set to become a free agent.

However, the Bengals put an end to any thoughts of Higgins playing elsewhere by applying the franchise tag on the 6-foot-4 receiver. He played last season under a $21.8 million franchise tag, but now he’s set to test the open market again.

Tee Higgins is just weeks away from being able to discuss a long-term contract with all 32 teams instead of just with the Cincinnati Bengals. Yet, the NFL’s franchise tag window opens on the 18th, meaning we could have some news on Higgins in the next few days, if not the next 24 hours.

Recently, On SI’s James Rapien reported that people from inside Higgins’ camp believe the 26-year-old receiver will be hit with the franchise tag for the second offseason in a row.

“Sources say Higgins’ camp expects to get tagged at this point. He would be the top free agent if he were to make it to free agency. That isn’t expected to happen. The Bengals will tag Higgins by the March 4 deadline.”

The idea of the Bengals keeping Higgins doesn’t come as a surprise, but seeing him get the franchise tag for two years in a row is unexpected. Since he’s in line to be franchise tagged for the second season in a row, Higgins is in line to make $26.1 million for 2025 and will re-enter free agency next offseason where he cannot be tagged again.

The Cincinnati Bengals face a critical offseason with major decisions looming on both sides of the ball.

According to NFL.com’s Eric Edholm, the Bengals have $46 million in salary cap space, with star wide receivers Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase becoming free agents. The team will likely only be able to retain one of them due to cap constraints.

Now, amid these offensive challenges, the Bengals’ defense faces its own upheaval.

NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero report that six-year veteran linebacker Germaine Pratt, the team’s defensive captain, has requested a trade. The request comes in the wake of defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo’s firing and subsequent move to the Indianapolis Colts.

Complicating matters further on defense, star defensive end Trey Hendrickson is seeking a contract extension that could exceed $30 million annually.

Pratt, a third-round pick from North Carolina State in 2019, is coming off his strongest season. He led the team with 143 tackles in 2024, while adding two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, four quarterback hits, and five tackles for loss.

The timing of Pratt’s request carries significant financial implications. His cap hit for 2025 is $8.1 million, but trading or releasing him would free up $5.8 million in cap space while leaving $2.3 million in dead money.

Rapoport notes that Pratt will have trade value.

Over his six seasons in Cincinnati, Pratt has established himself as a defensive cornerstone, appearing in 96 games (88 starts) while accumulating 616 tackles, 3.5 sacks, seven interceptions, and 32 tackles for loss.
