The Philadelphia Eagles will be carefully monitoring Saquon Barkley’s workload next season following a historic 2024 campaign where he became just the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards.

While delivering 2,005 yards on the ground, Barkley shouldered a career-high in rushing attempts (345) and total touches (378). After helping lead the Eagles to their second Super Bowl championship, general manager Howie Roseman rewarded Barkley with a groundbreaking extension just one year into his deal — making him the first running back in NFL history to command $20 million annually.

Will Shipley, entering his second year with the Eagles, is positioned for an expanded role in 2025. His rookie campaign yielded modest production with 82 rushing yards on 32 carries and 35 receiving yards on four receptions.

With reliable backup Kenneth Gainwell departing for the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal, the Eagles have now signed a running back who missed the entire 2024 season with a neck injury to round out their backfield rotation.

According to multiple reports, including NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Eagles have signed former Green Bay Packers running back A.J. Dillon to a one-year deal.

Dillon, the Packers’ second-round selection from the 2020 NFL Draft, missed the entire 2024 season with a neck injury but has received medical clearance from top specialists.

During his four-year stint in Green Bay (2020-2023), Dillon amassed 2,428 rushing yards on 597 carries with 16 touchdowns. He’s also proven himself as a capable receiver out of the backfield, recording 86 receptions for 763 yards and two additional scores.

Beyond his ball-carrying abilities, Dillon brings valuable pass-protection skills with his ability to pick up blitzing defenders.

Contract details remain undisclosed.

Former All-Pro receiver linked to Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks https://sportsnaut.com/cooper-kupp-rumors-green-bay-packers-seattle-seahawks/ Wed, 12 Mar 2025 18:51:38 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1279991 Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks

The Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks entered last season expecting to make the playoffs. Yet, while the Packers won 11 games and the Seahawks won 10, only Green Bay reached the postseason, but they didn’t get far after being eliminated in the Wild Card Round.

Now, both teams are doing their best to try strengthening their roster in anticipation of another playoff run. The Seahawks have already been busy drastically transforming their roster, and the Packers have made several changes too. Now, the two teams could be competing to land the same former All-Pro talent.

After trying to find a trade partner for the past month, the Los Angeles Rams finally released former All-Pro receiver on Wednesday at the start of the new league year. Kupp is free to sign with any team he desires, and there are two that are already viewed as leading candidates.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah believes “Seattle would be a great fit” for Kupp. Meanwhile, the 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov says the Packers “are among several teams who have been eyeing” Kupp’s market.

Now that he’s a free agent instead of a trade candidate, Kupp shouldn’t have any trouble finding a new team. Set to turn 32 in June, Kupp’s biggest impediment has been his inability to stay healthy. The former Rams receiver hasn’t played in more than 12 games since 2021 and has just one 1,000-yard season on his resume.

However, if Kupp lands in the right spot, with a high-powered passing attack, he just might be able to help a contending team compete for another Super Bowl.

Promising Green Bay Packers rumors on big spending in NFL free agency https://sportsnaut.com/green-bay-packers-rumors-spending-free-agency/ Mon, 10 Mar 2025 12:34:22 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1279176 Green Bay Packers rumors
Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

The Green Bay Packers splurged in NFL free agency last offseason, signing safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs. Both earned Pro Bowl selections and that aggressive approach on the open market could be seen again in 2025.

Green Bay’s investments in McKinney and Jacobs paid off as well as the team dreamed of. As the featured running back of the Packers offense, Jacobs totaled 1,671 scrimmage yards with 16 total touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry. McKinney earned first-team All-Pro honors thanks to 8 interceptions and 11 pass deflections.

Unfortunately for the team, some of its positions of need are thin on impact talent in NFL free agency. With a high-end wideout unlikely to be found on the open market and many of the top edge rushers on the other side of 30, Green Bay might have to target other positions. That seems to be their exact strategy.

According to ESPN‘s Rob Demovsky, the Packers are expected to be big spenders in NFL free agency. While there are mixed opinions on whether or not Green Bay will spend early or wait until the second wave, targets are emerging.

Specifically, cornerback seems to be the position general manager Brian Gutekunst wants to target. With the team getting ready to move on from Jaire Alexander, young cornerbacks like Charvarius Ward, Byron Murphy Jr., D.J. Reed and Paulson Adebo seem to be on the team’s radar.

Demovsky also highlighted the defensive line as another area the team could address, with edge rusher Josh Sweat and defensive tackle Milton Williams both potential targets for the Packers. Both players are still in their mid-20s and would present long-term starters to strengthen the Packers’ defense.

With the talent pool in NFL free agency thinner than in previous years, Green Bay might not be as aggressive as it was last offseason. However, upgrades will be made to the roster with the emphasis seeming to be on improving defensively.

Green Bay Packers holding trade discussions around two-time Pro Bowler https://sportsnaut.com/green-bay-packers-jaire-alexander-trade-discussions/ Wed, 26 Feb 2025 18:16:29 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1276369 Green Bay Packers

While they snuck under the radar as a third-place team in the NFC North, the Green Bay Packers had a top-10 offense and defense in 2024. Despite their success on both sides of the ball and winning 11 games, the Packers wound up being eliminated in the Wild Card round, going home without a playoff victory.

Now they’re a popular pick to make a splashy move this offseason in an effort to take the next step as a team. Yet, this time the Packers rumors are fixated on trading a two-time Pro Bowler instead of acquiring one.

Green Bay Packers have already discussed a Jaire Alexander trade

One player who was missing in action late in the season was two-time All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander. He played just seven games while dealing with an injury, and now he has a $25.4 million cap hit in 2025. Now that the Packers have seen they can play well without him, Alexander could be viewed as expendable.

In fact, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers “have had trade conversations centered around Jaire Alexander and are open to moving him for the right price.”

Recently, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said, “We’ll see,” when asked whether Alexander, 28, will be on the roster next season. Gutekunst later admitted the team is “working through that.”

Alexander has played at a very high level when healthy, but the Packers might be able to bounce back with a better roster next year without him on the payroll.

Super Bowl-winning head coach supports Philadelphia Eagles’ ‘Tush Push’ amid ban proposal https://sportsnaut.com/philadelphia-eagles-news-kansas-city-chiefs-andy-reid-supports-tush-push/ Wed, 26 Feb 2025 01:55:51 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1276295 Philadelphia Eagles Tush Push
Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

The Philadelphia Eagles’ incredibly successful “Tush Push” play, also known as the “Brotherly Shove,” is making headlines once again.

The Green Bay Packers recently made a proposal to the NFL to ban the play, which is predominantly used by the Eagles in short-yardage situations. Other teams have their own versions but aren’t nearly as successful.

The play has been previously studied by the league, but no action has been taken.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says it would be “unfair” to ban the play.

“I can’t tell you how many times we’ve practiced the snap, we’ve practiced the play — it’s not a play that’s easy to practice, so there’s different ways we’ve figured out how to practice it — the complements that come off of it that can create explosive plays,” Sirianni said, via ESPN.com.

“The fact that it’s [portrayed] as an automatic thing, we work really hard, and our guys are talented at this play, and so it’s a little insulting to say we’re good at it so it’s automatic. We work really hard at it.”

Sirianni is also getting support from the head coach he just defeated in Super Bowl 59.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid supports ‘Tush Push’

In an interview with Pro Football Talk, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who was on the other side of a Jalen Hurts “Brotherly Shove” TD, backed the play.

“They do it better than anybody, so they’re gonna get criticized,” Reid said. “Heck, if we could do it effectively, I’d probably do it.”

Reid also brought up what former Eagles center Jason Kelce said about running the play when he called it “grueling.”

“That’s how I feel, but these committees take care of all this injury stuff,” Reid added. “You hear Jason Kelce coming out — he said it when he was playing, he said it when he’s retired. And I got a lot of trust in that kid, he’s tougher than shoe leather. He’s out there going, ‘this is a great play, but it kills me. As a center, I was getting destroyed.’ . . . That in itself is an alarm that you gotta look at.”

It’s highly unlikely the “Tush Push” would get banned. If the proposal goes to a vote, 24 of the 32 owners would need to approve to ban it.

In 2024, Hurts had 14 rushing touchdowns, with 13 of them coming in goal-to-go downs. The Eagles also had the fourth-best fourth-down conversion rate in the league at 70.4%.

NFL insider suggests Green Bay Packers could target surprise reunion with franchise legend in free agency https://sportsnaut.com/green-bay-packers-rumors-davante-adams-reunion-in-2025/ Wed, 19 Feb 2025 15:41:35 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1274741 green bay packers

One notable NFL insider believes the Green Bay Packers could pursue a surprise reunion with a team great they traded away a few seasons ago.

After a surprise breakthrough season in 2023, the Packers took another nice development step forward this past season. Expectations were higher. And Matt LaFleur’s team posted an 11-6 record while being part of, arguably, the best division in the NFL.

However, unlike 2023, Green Bay was ousted from the postseason in just one game earlier this year. It showed that while the Packers are certainly a force in the NFC, they still may be a piece or two or away from being a serious threat to get to the Super Bowl in 2026. That is why finding some impactful additions in the NFL Draft and free agency will be important this offseason.

While the organization has been linked to several players already, earlier this week, ESPN NFL insider Jeremey Fowler connected them to a reunion with one of their greatest players.

Could the Green Bay Packers bring Davante Adams back in 2025?

During an appearance on Sportscenter this week, Fowler gave an update on what the future holds for New York Jets receiver Davante Adams. And it apparently includes being cut soon and a potential return to Lambeau Field next season.

“He will have options, and I’m told that he is intrigued by the West Coast,” Fowler said [h/t Bleacher Report]. “You have teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, maybe San Francisco 49ers. He’s from the West Coast, so it’s a possibility he could end up there. Maybe the Packers want to run it back to him as well if they could involved there.”

The Green Bay Packers will have a decent chunk of spending cash this offseason. Around $37 million, according to Spotrac. Adams is unlikely to get anywhere near the $35 million he is set to make this season. He could end up being in the Packers’ price range. And after having no receivers post 1,000 yards in 2024, QB Jordan Love could sure use more proven weapons in the passing game next season.

The big question is would Adams want to return Green Bay but not receiver passes from pal Aaron Rodgers? The team traded him before the 2022 season after deciding they were unwilling to give him the massive contract extension he was looking for.

The Green Bay Packers have been the youngest team in the NFL for the last two years, reaching the playoffs both times. Now heading into a critical offseason with improvements needed to become a Super Bowl contender, NFL rumors are pointing to the team cutting ties with an All-Pro talent.

Green Bay is already well-positioned to spend this offseason with just over $40 million in cap space. With the list of Packers free agents in 2025 – Eric Stokes, Josh Myers, Brandon McManus and Isaiah McDuffie – having very top-end talent, the team will be able to go after top NFL free agents. However, cap casualties are coming and that seems to include parting ways with a top defender.

  • Jaire Alexander contract (Spotrac): $25.481 million cap hit in 2025

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, there are “strong indications” that the Packers will move on from All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander this offseason. While money plays a factor, those working with the team have also reportedly become frustrated with Alexander’s lack of availability.

“Multiple team source have privately expressed their frustration with Alexander’s inability to stay healthy and/or play through injuries.”

Rob Demovsky on why the Green Bay Packers are expected to move on from Jaire Alexander

Alexander is a two-time Pro Bowl selection who earned second-team All-Pro honors twice during his Packers’ career, including for the 2022 season. However, the 5-foot-10 corner’s play has slipped in recent years with injuries limiting him to just 807 snaps played in 14 games in the last two years.

Related: One NFL free agent every team should pursue, including Green Bay Packers

  • Jaire Alexander stats (2023-’24): 100.83 QB rating allowed, 61.9% completion rate allowed, 5-2 TD-INT in 14 games played

There’s also some financial incentive for Alexander to be a cap casualty. If Alexander is designated as a post-June 1 release, it would free up $17.117 million in cap savings. Even if Green Bay releases him earlier, there would still be $6.389 million in cap savings.

The Packers cap space could then be used on a top cornerback like D.J. Reed or Charvarius Ward, both of whom have outplayed Alexander in the last two seasons and have a better durability track record. Green Bay could also use that additional cap space to pursue a No. 1 wide receiver (Tee Higgins) or a veteran edge rusher (Khalil Mack), banking on their on-field impact exceeding what Alexander would likely do in 2025.

Many key Eagles players from that championship-winning performance will be among the NFL free agents in 2025. Super Bowl winners: Most Super Bowl wins, Lombardi Trophy history https://sportsnaut.com/super-bowl-winners/ Tue, 11 Feb 2025 00:19:59 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=640459 Super Bowl winners

Every year since 1966, the Super Bowl has given NFL teams a chance to prove who the league champions are on the biggest stage. Over the years, there have been many Super Bowl winners and losers, but which team has won the most Lombardi trophies? Which football player has more Super Bowl rings than any other in NFL history?

Who has the most Super Bowl wins? That depends if you’re talking among players or teams. Don’t worry, we’ve got all the answers.

Who was in the last five Super Bowls?

We realize sometimes it’s difficult to remember what you ate yesterday, let alone who played in the Super Bowl in February. Here are the Super Bowl participants from the past five years to help refresh your memory.

  • Super Bowl LIX: Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LVIII: Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers
  • Super Bowl LVII – Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles
  • Super Bowl LVI – Los Angeles Rams vs Cincinnati Bengals
  • Super Bowl LV – Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Kansas City Chiefs

Who are the Super Bowl winners the last 10 years?

Here are the Super Bowl winners from the past ten years.

  • Super Bowl LIX – Philadelphia Eagles
  • Super Bowl LVIII – Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LVII – Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LVI – Los Angeles Rams
  • Super Bowl LV – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Super Bowl LIII – Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LII – Philadelphia Eagles
  • Super Bowl LI – New England Patriots
  • Super Bowl L – Denver Broncos
  • Super Bowl XLIX – New England Patriots

Four teams tied with one Super Bowl victory

There are a total of four teams with just one Super Bowl victory.

  • New York Jets – 1969
  • Chicago Bears – 1986
  • New Orleans Saints – 2010
  • Seattle Seahawks – 2014

While each team is in constant pursuit of becoming Super Bowl winners for a second time, it’s still better than the eight NFL teams who have never even won a league championship. In fact, there are four teams who have never even made a Super Bowl appearance, as sad as it is.

Six two-time Super Bowl winners

This is a little better group to be in if we’re separating Super Bowls by team. Each of the teams listed below has won two Lombardi trophies in their franchise history.

  • Miami Dolphins
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Philadelphia Eagles

Even though the Ravens often looked like Super Bowl favorites in 2023, like the four others on this list, they’ll have to wait another year to become a three-time winner.

Three-time Super Bowl champions includes group of historic NFL teams

Both the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders were founded in 1960, and coincidentally, they’re both AFC West Division foes. The Washington Commanders were founded in 1932, and they all have three NFL championships.

Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs – Four wins in Super Bowl history

Syndication: NorthJersey

Two more teams who have been around forever, the Green Bay Packers began play in 1919 and the New York Giants in 1925. Both teams have enjoyed historic victories in their time. There’s a reason why Vince Lombardi has the Super Bowl trophy named after him: the Packers were dominant in the 1960s.

As great as these two franchises once were, neither of them were able to return to Lombardi-land in 2023. Yet, after defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card, the Packers got much further in the first year than anyone expected without Aaron Rodgers.

The Chiefs have never not gone to the AFC Championship game since Patrick Mahomes took over starting duties in 2018, and now Kansas City is one of three franchises to have a quartet of Super Bowl wins.

San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys – Five Super Bowl wins

NFL: Super Bowl XXIX

Talk about dominance. The Dallas Cowboys had two eras to be proud of, with two Super Bowl wins in the 1970s and three more from 1984-94 thanks to a multitude of stars. The San Francisco 49ers have had some of the greatest players of all time and won a whopping five Super Bowls from 1981 to 1994. What a time to be alive.

While both of these franchises already have a legendary history, they both began as strong contenders in the 2024 postseason. Yet, the Cowboys are already done after getting walloped in the Wild Card round.

Now, after a three year break, the 49ers are just one game away from a Super Bowl win. After entering the playoffs as the NFC’s top seed, their odds to add a seventh trophy are as strong as ever.

Even though they couldn’t overcome the Chiefs, San Francisco has a rich talent pool, meaning its hopes of adding a sixth trophy to the team’s showcase could come as soon as the 2025 Super Bowl, as long as they qualify for the postseason again.

Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots – Six SB wins

Syndication: Wicked Local

Who has won the most Super Bowls? No team has more Super Bowls than the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, who each have six apiece. Eventually, there may be a team with more Super Bowl wins, but for now, the Steelers and Patriots have the ultimate bragging rights.

Both teams have started over at quarterback. For the Patriots, we’re likely at least a year away from competing for a Super Bowl. The Steelers have better chances, but it all depends on how well Russell Wilson and/or Justin Fields can spark this offense. While these two defenses have been as good as always, both teams’ offenses often held them back in 2023. We’ll see if that remains true in 2024.

Players with the most Super Bowl wins

NFL: Super Bowl LV

Teams have their own records, but players switch cities every offseason, meaning some players could win a Super Bowl every year if they have some luck. Which player has the most Super Bowl wins?

None other than Tom Brady of course. There’s a reason why they call him the GOAT. Seven Super Bowl rings will do that. Behind TB12 is pass rusher Charles Haley, who won two rings with the 49ers and three more with America’s Team.

Details about the Lombardi Trophy

It’s been said that the Lombardi Trophy takes a total of four months to construct, with up to 72 hours of labor put into the work, costing a total of $50,000 when all is said and done. Yet, the actual value of the trophy is just $10,000.

This means that when Tom Brady decided to throw the Super Bowl LV trophy from one boat to another during the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl parade after the 2021 season, even if it had landed at the bottom of the bay, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world.

Even though the trophy seems like it would weigh a hefty amount, it is constructed of sterling silver, which isn’t that dense. In all, the Lombardi weighs 107.3 ounces or roughly seven pounds. It has some weight, but not enough to deter anyone from trying to throw it like a football, or at least not Brady.
