In a show of how damaged the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders brands currently are, a new report claims Matthew Stafford turned down much better offers from both teams to return to the Los Angeles Rams for another season.

There were few bigger stories in the NFL over the last week than the future of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. While the 37-year-old has only played just four seasons with the franchise, he will go down as a team great for helping to bring them their most recent Super Bowl title.

In an attempt to win a second this past season, the two-time Pro Bowler restructured his contract to improve the team’s salary cap situation. However, the check has come due on that favor and Stafford wanted to get a pay bump or extension this spring. With LA hesitant to acquiesce to that request, it looked like he could be traded this offseason. And the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders were his top suitors.

Yet, despite being allowed to speak with both teams, Stafford surprised many by deciding to stick it out with LA. On Monday, some new insight was offered up from NFL insider Ari Meirov on the very lucrative offers the QB passed on last week.

  • Matthew Stafford stats (2024): 3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 93.7 passer rating

Matthew Stafford passed on multi-year, fully-guaranteed deals from Raiders and Giants?

“[The Raiders and Giants] were willing to offer a multi-year deal with full guarantees. They were willing to go that far to bring Matthew Stafford out of LA. And into their facilities to become their quarterback. Both those teams met with his agent Jimmy Sexton in Indianapolis. Exchanged those numbers, and they were ready and willing to talk to the Rams about a potential trade compensation package.

“But on Friday, Matthew Stafford ended up having that meeting with Rams brass. They all agreed this has been a bit contentious, ‘Yes, we have not respected you as much as we should have,’ and all agreed this was his best chance at winning.”

  • Matthew Stafford contract (2025): Projected to be around $40 million

Meirov revealed that the Rams offer really doesn’t come close to what the Giants and Raiders offered. And essentially it is a one year pay increase with few guarantees for 2026. This means this situation could occur again next season, and Stafford ending his career in LA is far from guaranteed. The QB is expected to get a pay raise from $27 million to around $40 million in 2025.

The Las Vegas Raiders are back to the drawing board in their quarterback search after Matthew Stafford decided to stay with the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams previously granted Stafford’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, permission to talk with other teams about a contract for the Super Bowl-winning quarterback. The Raiders, along with the New York Giants, were reportedly willing to offer Stafford a two-year deal worth up to $100 million. Stafford reportedly even had an unplanned conversation with Raiders minority owner Tom Brady while both were in Montana at a ski resort.

However, Stafford spurned Las Vegas and reworked his contract with the Rams to remain in Los Angeles.

It’s not surprising to see why Stafford wouldn’t leave a playoff team in the Rams to go to an underperforming Raiders squad. They finished 4-13 in 2024, cycling through three different quarterbacks in Aidan O’Connell, Gardner Minshew, and Carter Bradley. Las Vegas also ended up firing head coach Antonio Pierce and replacing him with Pete Carroll.

The Raiders own the sixth-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and there’s a possibility Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders could fall to them. But they still need a veteran signal-caller for next season.

After Stafford declined Las Vegas’ advances, The Athletic’s NFL insider Dianna Russini reports the Raiders are now interested in Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson.

Darnold resurrected his career with the Minnesota Vikings, leading them to a 14-3 record, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns, and making his first Pro Bowl team. It’s anticipated he could command upwards of $40 million a year.

As for Wilson, he made 12 starts for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, including the postseason. He missed the first six weeks of the season with a calf injury. When he returned, the Steelers won six of Wilson’s first seven starts, but lost their last five games, including in the Wild Card round to the Baltimore Ravens. Wilson threw for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and just five interceptions as he was named to the Pro Bowl for the tenth time in his career.

Wilson would likely serve as more of a stopgap quarterback while Darnold would more likely sign a contract in the three- to four-year range.

No matter the outcome, the Raiders desperately need to upgrade their quarterback room ahead of the 2025 season.

New York Giants’ salvation or downfall? The pros and cons of Big Blue trading for Matthew Stafford https://sportsnaut.com/new-york-giants-news-matthew-stafford-trade/ Fri, 28 Feb 2025 18:14:57 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1276776 NFL playoff preview
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Over the last several weeks, there has been widespread speculation that the New York Giants will try to acquire Matthew Stafford in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

These rumors intensified this week when ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that acquiring Stafford is the team’s top priority.

Having the 37-year-old quarterback under center for Big Blue would give the franchise a much-needed boost after they set a franchise record for losses last season when they finished 3-14. But there are pros and cons if the team trades for Stafford.

Here’s our breakdown on why it makes sense for the Giants to trade for him and why it doesn’t.

Why it makes sense

Self-preservation for Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen

Syndication: The Record

It’s clear that if the Giants do not show significant improvement in 2025, head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen will be out of a job. As important as it is to build for the future, Daboll and Schoen need to win now, and Stafford is a proven winner.

Despite going 3-14 last season, the Giants have the toughest strength of schedule as their opponents have a winning percentage of .574. The team will play the NFC North and AFC West, and both divisions had three teams make the playoffs last season.

The best chance for Daboll and Schoen to keep their jobs beyond next season is to get a quarterback of Stafford’s caliber who could pull off a few upsets and bring credibility back to the team.

Stafford could help turn WR Malik Nabers into an All-Pro

Syndication: The Record

Wide receiver Malik Nabers had a stellar rookie season and set a franchise record for most receptions in a season (109) to go along with 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. What made this all the more impressive is that he did this with subpar quarterback play. Imagine what he could do catching passes from a top-10 quarterback? Nabers would have seen his 11-yard per reception average increase significantly.

Despite his age, Stafford is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league and will bring out the best in Nabers, and we’ll see more explosive plays from the star wideout. It would not be a surprise if Nabers puts up All-Pro numbers in 2025 if the Giants can pull off this blockbuster trade.

Why it doesn’t make sense

Giants would have to give up significant draft capital to acquire aging QB

Matthew Stafford, New York Giants
Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

Even if the team acquires Stafford, they’re still far from being a contender. Although it would be a huge upgrade to have a quarterback on the roster who will surpass 60,000 passing yards this season, nobody is expecting the team to be one of the best in the conference.

The Rams know the Giants are desperate to acquire a top-tier quarterback, and they will try to get as much as they can in return if they’re going to part ways with a quarterback that led them to a Super Bowl three years ago.

The Giants won’t trade the third overall pick to get Stafford, but they may have to trade their second-round pick (34th overall) along with other draft capital to acquire the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback. That’s a significant amount of draft capital for a player who might play three more seasons.

The team would be better off long-term if they signed a veteran free-agent quarterback and kept all of their draft picks, instead of giving up picks for an aging quarterback.

Stafford wants a huge contract

Matthew Stafford, New York Giants
Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images

The reason all the trade rumors surrounding Stafford began to surface was because he’s unhappy with his current contract, where he’s scheduled to make $27 million in 2025. The belief is that he wants to be paid as a top-10 quarterback, which would put him in the $50 million per year range.

So not only would the team have to make a trade to acquire the Rams quarterback, but they would also have to give him a hefty contract. For a team with a plethora of holes to fill, investing that money in a player at the tail end of their career would be a bad investment. The Giants will have around $50 million in cap space, and it would be in their best interest to use that money to sign players who could be cornerstones for the franchise for years to come.

Wild NFL rumor claims pals Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams plotting move to NFC West contender this offseason https://sportsnaut.com/nfl-rumors-aaron-rodgers-davante-adams-los-angeles-rams-speculation/ Wed, 26 Feb 2025 14:18:42 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1276322 aaron rodgers

A stunning new NFL rumor suggests Aaron Rodgers is not yet ready to retire and has a team in mind to continue his career. Furthermore, he wants to bring pal Davante Adams with him to this NFC West franchise.

Green Bay Packers legend Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. During 18 seasons in Green Bay, the 10-time Pro Bowler led the franchise to their last Super Bowl win and was a four-time NFL MVP. However, his time in New York with the Jets was an absolute disaster.

He played just a few snaps for Gang Green in 2023 before a ruptured Achilles ended his season. Then despite staying healthy for all of the 2024 campaign, the NFL great looked like a shell of himself during an awful 5-12 season. Unsurprisingly, with a new regime running the show for the Jets, it was quickly revealed this offseason that the franchise will not be moving forward with Rodgers as their starting QB in 2025.

It has led to a lot of speculation on what’s next for the 41-year-old. After nearly retiring before accepting a trade to the New York Jets, it seems ending his career this offseason is possible. However, a wild new report from New York Daily News NFL reporter Pat Leonard claims Rodgers is hoping to play for one specific team in 2025.

  • Aaron Rodgers stats (2024): 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 90.5 passer rating

Aaron Rodgers wants to join the Los Angeles Rams and bring Davante Adams with him

“Sources tell the Daily News that Aaron Rodgers prefers to play for the Rams and that the outgoing Jets QB would bring Davante Adams with him once the Jets receiver becomes a free agent,” Leonard wrote on X, formerly Twitter, this week.

Many things need to happen first before this can at all become a possibility. First, the Los Angeles Rams must decide to move on from current QB Matthew Stafford. The two-time Pro Bowler is looking for a new contract and there have been rumors he could be traded in the coming weeks.

Then the Jets have to release both Rodgers and his pal Adams. Adams and Rodgers became close friends during their time in Green Bay and that is why the QB pushed New York to trade for him last season. If they can continue to play together they may be willing to play for LA at a bargain rate in 2025.

  • Davante Adams stats (2024): 85 receptions, 1,063 receiving yards, 8 touchdowns, 12.5 yards per catch

NFL rumors: So long Russell Wilson and Justin Fields? Insider believes Pittsburgh Steelers should acquire this Super Bowl-winning QB https://sportsnaut.com/pittsburgh-steelers-rumors-nfl-insider-trade-matthew-stafford-russell-wilson-justin-fields/ Sat, 22 Feb 2025 15:19:42 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1275568 Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers
Barry Reeger-Imagn Images

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a quarterback conundrum this offseason.

Last offseason, the Steelers traded for former first-round pick Justin Fields and signed Russell Wilson. Both quarterbacks were coming off tumultuous tenures with their previous teams, the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos.

Wilson was the presumptive starting quarterback going into the season but went down with a calf injury before Week 1. Fields stepped in and led the Steelers to a 4-2 record, throwing five touchdowns to one interception and rushing for another five scores.

However, despite Fields’ success, head coach Mike Tomlin inserted Wilson back into the starting lineup when he was healthy. The move paid immediate dividends, as the Steelers won six of seven games with Wilson under center. But Pittsburgh collapsed at the end of the season, losing their last five games, including a defeat against the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Overall in 2024, Wilson went 6-5, throwing for 2,482 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, while earning his 10th Pro Bowl selection.

With both Wilson and Fields entering free agency, the Steelers have a franchise-altering decision to make. However, one NFL insider believes Pittsburgh needs to go in a different direction.

NFL insider wants Pittsburgh Steelers to trade for two-time Pro Bowl quarterback

ESPN NFL insider Aaron Schatz believes the Steelers should trade for Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford from the Los Angeles Rams, despite his age of 37.

“Stafford is still playing at a high level. He ranked sixth in QBR in 2023 and then 12th in 2024. Compare that with the Steelers’ two quarterbacks from last season. Stafford had a 64.7 QBR, while Russell Wilson was at 51.3 (22nd) and Justin Fields was at 50.8 (not enough attempts to be ranked),” Schatz noted.

Last season, Stafford led the Rams to a surprising playoff berth, going 10-6, with 3,762 passing yards and 20 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. He posted a 65.8 completion percentage while averaging 7.3 yards per pass attempt.

“Pittsburgh still needs to add receiving help, with both Van Jefferson and Mike Williams hitting free agency, but there would be hope that Stafford could truly activate the talents of George Pickens,” added Schatz. “Also, Stafford is a better fit for offensive coordinator Arthur Smith than Aaron Rodgers because of Stafford’s experience in Sean McVay’s play-action-heavy system with the Rams. The Steelers and Rams were both near the top of the league in using more conventional quarterback-under-center formations (31% of passes for each team).”

It’s hard to envision the Steelers trading assets for a 37-year-old quarterback when they could sign either Wilson or Fields without giving up draft capital. Whichever direction the Steelers choose, they need to ensure their decision won’t come back to haunt them for years to come.

NFL insiders speculate on New York Giants’ trade cost to acquire 2x Pro Bowl QB https://sportsnaut.com/new-york-giants-trade-rumors-matthew-stafford-cost/ Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:27:25 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1275188 New York Giants

What is the next step for the New York Giants? Unlike many other teams that are starting over with new general managers or completely overhauled coaching staffs, the Giants do at least have continuity working in their favor.

While general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll may be aligned in their decision-making process heading into their fourth year together, the Giants desperately need a QB upgrade. Actually, they don’t have any quarterbacks under contract.

Perhaps that’s why the Giants trade rumors are heating up as the offseason moves along. Recently, they’ve been tied to a former Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

New York Giants’ Matthew Stafford trade cost could start with 34th pick

One surprising potential solution for the New York Giants this offseason could be to negotiate a trade with the Los Angeles Rams for Matthew Stafford.

The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback is not on the trade block. He’d like to return to Los Angeles, and the Rams would like to retain him. However, Stafford also has just $4 million in guarantees remaining on his contract. Expectedly so, the 37-year-old two-time Pro Bowl quarterback wants a larger financial commitment that shows he’s in his team’s future plans.

So far, the Rams have failed to bump Stafford’s pay, which is the only reason why his name is popping up in trade rumors. Yet, these rumors haven’t gone away. If anything, they’ve only strengthened as the offseason rages on.

Recently, The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue and Dan Duggan speculated on what a potential Giants trade for Stafford package could look like. While it’s been reported that the Rams are seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Stafford, that wouldn’t be the case when negotiating with the Giants, who hold the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Rodrigue: “In a deal for Stafford, acquiring a pick high enough to package and move up for a top receiver or offensive lineman, or acquiring enough picks to package together to go after a few need positions would probably be worth listening to. In this case, I look less at that tasty No. 3 overall pick and more at No. 34 (and then some) … though you’ve got to at least ask, right?!”

Duggan: “The Rams definitely need to ask about No. 3, and the Giants definitely need to hang up the phone. No. 34 is where the conversation gets interesting. I don’t know how the Rams make the trade if they can’t get that second-round pick (plus more). Pick No. 34 would be a steep price to pay, but I don’t think a Giants offer will be taken seriously without their second-rounder. How much more they have to give up will depend on a combination of their level of desperation and the competition for Stafford.”

The Athletic on New York Giants’ trade cost for Matthew Stafford

While parting with a first-round pick seems out of the question for any team in desperate need of a quarterback, the Giants could have the advantage of having such a high second-round pick to offer.

Yet, would Stafford want to join a Giants team that may be a year or two away from competing? With his arm, he might just have the confidence to help lead a quick turnaround that ends in yet another postseason appearance.

The New York Jets quickly made their decision on Aaron Rodgers, revealing before the Super Bowl that one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history wouldn’t return in 2025. As the Jets now prepare to find their own short-term quarterback solution, NFL rumors are already flying regarding Rodgers’ future.

He never came close to meeting expectations in New York, demonstrating that he is no longer a Pro Bowl-caliber starter. There is also a great deal of uncertainty about whether or not he wants to play football again, with retirement once again on the table. However, if he does return, plenty believe he can still be an effective starter next season.

  • Aaron Rodgers stats 2024 (ESPN): 3,897 passing yards, 28-11 TD-INT, 63% completion rate, 6.7 ypa, 90.5 QB rating, 40 sacks taken

In his first year removed from a ruptured Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 season, Rodgers played relatively well for a 40-year-old quarterback. The four-time NFL MVP also showed improved play down the stretch, providing film that led many executives and coaches to believe he can still be a quality starting quarterback in 2025.

From Weeks 1-7, Rodgers compiled a 10-7 TD-INT ratio with an 82.2. QB rating, completing just 61.7 percent of his pass attempts and averaging 6.5 yards per attempt. In his final 10 starts, the Jets’ quarterback recorded an 18-4 TD-INT ratio with a 97.0 QB rating and completed 64.02 percent of his passes with a 6.81 ypa.

New York was willing to have him as its starting quarterback in 2025, but only on specific conditions. He needed to commit to being a part of the team’s offseason program and the club reportedly wanted him to stop making appearances on the Pat McAfee Show. However, a split was always the likely outcome with a fresh start needed for both parties.

While the 41-year-old hasn’t made a decision on whether or not he’ll retire, there is expected to be a market for his services if he decides to return next season. Specific preferences – offensive system and freedom to do what he wants – will certainly play a factor in what team he signs with if he returns for the 2025 season.

As for potential landing spots, Bleacher Report‘s NFL insider James Palmer mentioned the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans as teams that could sign Rodgers.

  • Aaron Rodgers career stats: 62,952 passing yards, 503-116 TD-INT, 7.6 ypa, 102.6 QB rating, 65.1% completion rate, 6.1% touchdown rate, 153-87-1 record

Los Angeles is obviously the least likely destination, but it stems from recent NFL rumors about the New York Giants trading for Matthew Stafford if he won’t restructure his contract with the Rams. However, Sean McVay’s system might not fit with what Rodgers wants.

The Steelers have been linked to Rodgers, especially amid reports that Russell Wilson could be headed elsewhere. However, there’s plenty of doubt around the league about whether or not Rodgers’ personality and the spectacle he creates is something Mike Tomlin wants in the Steelers locker room.

Related: NFL cap space by team 2025

Cleveland will be in the market for a veteran quarterback, but the Deshaun Watson contract will force the franchise to find a veteran starter whose salary is largely being covered by his former club. It’s why there have already been plenty of NFL rumors this winter linking Kirk Cousins to the Browns.

It leaves the Titans, which might be the likeliest destination for Rodgers. The future Hall of Fame quarterback lives in Nashville and he would give head coach Brian Callahan, who is on the hot seat, a stabilizing presence at quarterback to make the offense function. Plus, starting Rodgers would allow Tennessee to not reach for a rookie quarterback with the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

NFL insider: Super Bowl champion could be New York Jets’ answer as bridge quarterback https://sportsnaut.com/new-york-jets-rumors-matthew-stafford-bridge-quarterback/ Wed, 12 Feb 2025 01:35:19 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=1273086 New York Jets
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets will be looking for a quarterback as they prepare to part ways with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.

It was a tumultuous two seasons for Rodgers and the Jets. After being labeled the franchise’s savior going into the 2023 season, Rodgers tore his Achilles four plays into the opener against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, missing the rest of the year.

The Jets had high hopes once again going into 2024 with Rodgers recovered from his injury, but the season turned into a nightmare. Head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas were fired as the Jets finished 5-12. In two seasons with Gang Green, Rodgers went 6-12 in 18 starts, throwing for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while being sacked 41 times.

The Jets hold the seventh overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and it’s unlikely quarterback prospects Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders will fall to them. While they will likely need to use a bridge quarterback, one NFL insider has a startling projection.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Jets should be on the lookout for a bridge quarterback for 2025, and that could be current Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford.

“I think it’s a bridge quarterback for now. I think there are a lot of teams that are unconvinced that there’s anybody in this year’s draft who can be a long-term answer at quarterback,” Breer said on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “Who is that bridge? Does Matthew Stafford become available?”

Breer believes Stafford will become available this offseason because of his contract. The NFL insider noted that negotiations between Stafford and the Rams got “contentious at times” last year.

“If you’re Matthew Stafford, do you look at it and say, ‘There are nine quarterbacks scheduled to make over $50 million next year, and I’m making less than half of that in 2025,'” Breer stated.

Stafford would be an upgrade at the QB position for the Jets. He posted a 10-6 record as the Rams’ starting quarterback in 2024, leading them to a surprising postseason appearance. In 16 games, Stafford threw for 3,762 yards with 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The 37-year-old is scheduled to make $23 million in 2025, which is non-guaranteed. The Rams owe him a $4 million roster bonus next month.

Super Bowl winners: Most Super Bowl wins, Lombardi Trophy history https://sportsnaut.com/super-bowl-winners/ Tue, 11 Feb 2025 00:19:59 +0000 https://sportsnaut.com/?p=640459 Super Bowl winners

Every year since 1966, the Super Bowl has given NFL teams a chance to prove who the league champions are on the biggest stage. Over the years, there have been many Super Bowl winners and losers, but which team has won the most Lombardi trophies? Which football player has more Super Bowl rings than any other in NFL history?

Who has the most Super Bowl wins? That depends if you’re talking among players or teams. Don’t worry, we’ve got all the answers.

Who was in the last five Super Bowls?

We realize sometimes it’s difficult to remember what you ate yesterday, let alone who played in the Super Bowl in February. Here are the Super Bowl participants from the past five years to help refresh your memory.

  • Super Bowl LIX: Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LVIII: Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers
  • Super Bowl LVII – Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles
  • Super Bowl LVI – Los Angeles Rams vs Cincinnati Bengals
  • Super Bowl LV – Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Kansas City Chiefs

Who are the Super Bowl winners the last 10 years?

Here are the Super Bowl winners from the past ten years.

  • Super Bowl LIX – Philadelphia Eagles
  • Super Bowl LVIII – Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LVII – Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LVI – Los Angeles Rams
  • Super Bowl LV – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Super Bowl LIII – Kansas City Chiefs
  • Super Bowl LII – Philadelphia Eagles
  • Super Bowl LI – New England Patriots
  • Super Bowl L – Denver Broncos
  • Super Bowl XLIX – New England Patriots

Four teams tied with one Super Bowl victory

There are a total of four teams with just one Super Bowl victory.

  • New York Jets – 1969
  • Chicago Bears – 1986
  • New Orleans Saints – 2010
  • Seattle Seahawks – 2014

While each team is in constant pursuit of becoming Super Bowl winners for a second time, it’s still better than the eight NFL teams who have never even won a league championship. In fact, there are four teams who have never even made a Super Bowl appearance, as sad as it is.

Six two-time Super Bowl winners

This is a little better group to be in if we’re separating Super Bowls by team. Each of the teams listed below has won two Lombardi trophies in their franchise history.

  • Miami Dolphins
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Philadelphia Eagles

Even though the Ravens often looked like Super Bowl favorites in 2023, like the four others on this list, they’ll have to wait another year to become a three-time winner.

Three-time Super Bowl champions includes group of historic NFL teams

Both the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders were founded in 1960, and coincidentally, they’re both AFC West Division foes. The Washington Commanders were founded in 1932, and they all have three NFL championships.

Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs – Four wins in Super Bowl history

Syndication: NorthJersey

Two more teams who have been around forever, the Green Bay Packers began play in 1919 and the New York Giants in 1925. Both teams have enjoyed historic victories in their time. There’s a reason why Vince Lombardi has the Super Bowl trophy named after him: the Packers were dominant in the 1960s.

As great as these two franchises once were, neither of them were able to return to Lombardi-land in 2023. Yet, after defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card, the Packers got much further in the first year than anyone expected without Aaron Rodgers.

The Chiefs have never not gone to the AFC Championship game since Patrick Mahomes took over starting duties in 2018, and now Kansas City is one of three franchises to have a quartet of Super Bowl wins.

San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys – Five Super Bowl wins

NFL: Super Bowl XXIX

Talk about dominance. The Dallas Cowboys had two eras to be proud of, with two Super Bowl wins in the 1970s and three more from 1984-94 thanks to a multitude of stars. The San Francisco 49ers have had some of the greatest players of all time and won a whopping five Super Bowls from 1981 to 1994. What a time to be alive.

While both of these franchises already have a legendary history, they both began as strong contenders in the 2024 postseason. Yet, the Cowboys are already done after getting walloped in the Wild Card round.

Now, after a three year break, the 49ers are just one game away from a Super Bowl win. After entering the playoffs as the NFC’s top seed, their odds to add a seventh trophy are as strong as ever.

Even though they couldn’t overcome the Chiefs, San Francisco has a rich talent pool, meaning its hopes of adding a sixth trophy to the team’s showcase could come as soon as the 2025 Super Bowl, as long as they qualify for the postseason again.

Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots – Six SB wins

Syndication: Wicked Local

Who has won the most Super Bowls? No team has more Super Bowls than the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, who each have six apiece. Eventually, there may be a team with more Super Bowl wins, but for now, the Steelers and Patriots have the ultimate bragging rights.

Both teams have started over at quarterback. For the Patriots, we’re likely at least a year away from competing for a Super Bowl. The Steelers have better chances, but it all depends on how well Russell Wilson and/or Justin Fields can spark this offense. While these two defenses have been as good as always, both teams’ offenses often held them back in 2023. We’ll see if that remains true in 2024.

Players with the most Super Bowl wins

NFL: Super Bowl LV

Teams have their own records, but players switch cities every offseason, meaning some players could win a Super Bowl every year if they have some luck. Which player has the most Super Bowl wins?

None other than Tom Brady of course. There’s a reason why they call him the GOAT. Seven Super Bowl rings will do that. Behind TB12 is pass rusher Charles Haley, who won two rings with the 49ers and three more with America’s Team.

Details about the Lombardi Trophy

It’s been said that the Lombardi Trophy takes a total of four months to construct, with up to 72 hours of labor put into the work, costing a total of $50,000 when all is said and done. Yet, the actual value of the trophy is just $10,000.

This means that when Tom Brady decided to throw the Super Bowl LV trophy from one boat to another during the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl parade after the 2021 season, even if it had landed at the bottom of the bay, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world.

Even though the trophy seems like it would weigh a hefty amount, it is constructed of sterling silver, which isn’t that dense. In all, the Lombardi weighs 107.3 ounces or roughly seven pounds. It has some weight, but not enough to deter anyone from trying to throw it like a football, or at least not Brady.
