The Washington Commanders haven’t been resting on their laurels following their stunning run to the NFC Championship Game. They’ve already made waves this offseason, and they might not be done yet.

Their trade for former All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel gives reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels another playmaker to pair with Terry McLaurin, potentially transforming Washington’s aerial attack. But while the offense gets supercharged, the defensive front is facing a serious overhaul.

Washington still boasts a whopping $64.2 million in cap space according to OverTheCap.com, but they’re staring down significant defensive departures. Edge rushers Clelin Ferrell (3.5 sacks in 2024) and Dante Fowler Jr. (10.5 sacks in 2024) hit free agency, leaving major holes in their pass rush. Further complicating matters, two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, who was limited to just eight games last season with a torn pectoral muscle, has formally requested a trade.

If the Commanders can’t find a suitable trade partner for Allen, they’ll likely release him — a move that would free up an additional $16.47 million in cap space.

With Washington potentially needing to rebuild their defensive front almost from scratch, one NFL insider believes the Commanders are poised to land a former Defensive Player of the Year. No, it’s not Myles Garrett — the Cleveland Browns have emphatically stated he’s not available — but someone who would be a good fit for Dan Quinn’s defense.

Insider predicts Washington Commanders will sign nine-time Pro Bowler

ESPN’s Jason Reid predicts the Commanders will make a major splash by signing future Hall of Fame edge rusher Khalil Mack. The three-time first-team All-Pro made his ninth Pro Bowl in 2024, despite his production dipping from his dominant 2023 campaign.

Mack’s numbers did regress — from 17 sacks to six, 74 total tackles to 39, and 21 tackles for loss to six — but Reid sees the veteran as a perfect addition to Washington’s defensive scheme.

“A free agent for the first time in his career, Mack is a nine-time Pro Bowler, a four-time All-Pro (including three first-team selections) and was the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year,” Reid wrote. “Granted, Mack, who turned 34 on Feb. 22, isn’t the dominant game changer he once was, but he’s still capable of providing consistent pressure. And he would be a good fit in the aggressive defensive scheme that Commanders coach Dan Quinn utilizes.”

The fit makes perfect sense when you look at Washington’s defensive profile in 2024. The Commanders finished a respectable 13th in yards allowed per game (327.9), an impressive third in passing yards allowed per game (189.5), and middle-of-the-pack 18th in points allowed per game (23.0). Their glaring weakness? A porous run defense that ranked 30th, surrendering a staggering 137.5 rushing yards per game.

Adding the 34-year-old Mack would immediately bolster their pass rush and provide veteran leadership to a transforming front seven. However, even a player of Mack’s caliber can’t single-handedly fix Washington’s defensive issues — they’ll need to make several more strategic additions to truly solidify their defensive front and capitalize on their championship window while Daniels remains on his rookie contract.

“Howie Szn” has kicked into overdrive for the Philadelphia Eagles. Just 24 hours after making Saquon Barkley the NFL’s first $20 million-a-year running back, general manager Howie Roseman shelled out a three-year, $51 million contract to All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Baun will receive $34 million guaranteed with another $1.5 million in incentives and escalators.

The lucrative deal catapults Baun to become the fourth-highest paid linebacker in the NFL.

It’s been an absolutely remarkable journey for Baun to reach this pinnacle. He originally signed a modest one-year, $4 million deal with the Eagles following four largely uneventful seasons with the New Orleans Saints, where he made just 14 starts and mainly contributed on special teams.

However, under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Baun transformed into one of the most dominant linebackers in the league. He recorded 151 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, one interception, and five forced fumbles, earning him All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for the first time.

His excellence continued during the Eagles’ championship run, where he racked up 33 total tackles, two interceptions — including a pivotal one in the Super Bowl that set up a touchdown — and two fumble recoveries.

Now he’ll anchor the Eagles’ top-ranked defense for the next three seasons.

Myles Garrett-to-Philadelphia Eagles rumors should now be put to rest

With the Eagles bringing back Baun at this price point, any potential pursuit of former Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett likely evaporates.

Garrett has demanded a trade from the Cleveland Browns, but the franchise has consistently stated they have zero intention of moving on from the four-time All-Pro.

The Eagles did create over $6 million in cap space by designating cornerback Darius Slay and defensive back James Bradberry as post-June 1 releases. But with Roseman inking Barkley to a record-breaking extension and now re-signing Baun to this massive deal, Philadelphia simply wouldn’t have the financial bandwidth to accommodate Garrett, despite all their renowned salary cap gymnastics.

“If the Eagles were going to take on a huge contract for Myles Garrett, if he gets traded anywhere, he’s going to be the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL, no doubt about it,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said on “Good Morning Football” prior to the Baun signing. “In order to take on that contract, they would have to get rid of other very big contracts of their own. Even the Eagles can’t just fit everybody they want. I would be very surprised if this happened.”

The Eagles would most likely need to surrender at least two first-round picks to acquire Garrett if the Browns do make him available. On top of that crucial draft capital, Philadelphia has future contract extensions looming on the horizon for their young defensive cornerstones in Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith — a financial reality that makes the Garrett splash nearly impossible.

While the Philadelphia Eagles targeting a trade for Myles Garrett isn’t impossible, a top NFL insider recently explained why it is pretty close.

The Eagles and their fan base are still bathing in the afterglow of their Super Bowl victory in February. Not only did it bring the franchise its third NFL championship, but they got revenge on the Kansas City Chiefs after losing to them in the big game a few seasons ago.

However, staying on top year in and year out in the NFL is one of the most difficult things to do in professional sports. Fortunately for Philadelphia, they will return many of the key players from their title team next season. And general manager Howie Roseman has long shown a willingness to make big moves to keep his team in the hunt for a Super Bowl title.

That is why it should come as no surprise that the Eagles have seen their name in rumors of a potential trade for superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett. NFL Network league insider Ian Rapoport doesn’t rule out a trade. However, on Wednesday he explained why it would be an extremely difficult deal to actually pull off.

  • Myles Garrett stats (2024): 47 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 28 QB hits

Philadelphia Eagles would have to slash a massive amount of payroll to make Myles Garrett trade

“As far as the Philadelphia Eagles go, they have paid a lot of money to their own guys. All their best players are locked in on huge deals,” Rapoport began by saying. “Saquon Barkley, to Jalen Hurts, to AJ Brown, to Devonta Smith. Even though they cleared out some cap space yesterday, here’s what I want to point out, if the Eagles were to take on a huge contract for Myles Garrett, he will be the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL. No doubt about it.

“In order to take on that contract, they would have to get rid of other big contracts. Even the Eagles can’t just fit everybody they want. I would be very surprised if this happens. It is a great rumor.”

  • Myles Garrett contract: five years, $125 million

So essentially, if the Eagles want to get Myles Garrett, they would need to give up big pieces of a roster that just helped win a Super Bowl. Making a possible trade more of a lateral move than one that makes them far better in 2025. Rapoport also added that the Cleveland Browns are still pretty set in their stance that they do not intend to trade their top player this offseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles made the biggest coup of last year’s offseason, signing Saquon Barkley who turned in one of the greatest years in running back history. Could general manager Howie Roseman and the Birds do the same again after winning a Super Bowl?

The Eagles have been linked to four-time All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett, who has demanded a trade from the Cleveland Browns to play for a contender. The Browns have reiterated they will not trade Garrett, but the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year has no desire to continue his career with a faltering franchise.

The Eagles currently have $22 million in cap space to use. If they do trade for Garrett, they would have to give up a substantial haul of draft capital, most likely including at least two first-round draft picks.

However, one top NFL insider reveals how the Eagles could fit Garrett onto the roster despite the current cap limitations.

NFL insider: Philadelphia Eagles’ interest in Myles Garrett is ‘real’

In what should excite Eagles fans, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that the team’s interest in Garrett “is real.”

“Garrett could be this year’s version of Saquon Barkley for Howie,” one NFL GM told The Athletic. “He’s an impact add and isn’t a free-agent overpay. Howie’s not afraid to try stuff, and it fits where they are as a team.”

But how would the Eagles be able to fit Garrett on the roster? According to Russini, it would be by letting their top free agents walk, including All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun.

“Linebacker Zack Baun was a free-agent gem Roseman found last offseason, but he is now poised to cash in,” Russini reports. “Baun, edge rusher Josh Sweat, DT Milton Williams and guard Mekhi Becton headline Philly’s free agent class, and bringing all or even some of them back could prove challenging, especially if Garrett enters the picture — and you can be certain Roseman will have Philly in the conversation for Garrett.”

Garrett still has two years remaining on his $125 million contract with no guaranteed money left. If the Eagles do acquire Garrett, they will certainly sign him to a contract extension.

Over eight seasons in Cleveland, Garrett has recorded 102.5 sacks, 116 tackles for loss, 200 quarterback hits, and 20 forced fumbles.

The Philadelphia Eagles have critical decisions to make this offseason as they are coming off their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history.

Three key defensive pieces are entering free agency: All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun, one-time Pro Bowl defensive end Josh Sweat, and young defensive tackle Milton Williams. All three excelled under Vic Fangio’s top-ranked defense in 2024, and the Birds won’t be able to keep all three.

That’s not including defensive end Brandon Graham, who said 2024 would be his last season but has backed off retirement talk.

Out of the three, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reports the Eagles are making Baun a priority. To call Baun a surprise is an understatement. After four seasons with the New Orleans Saints where he primarily played EDGE rusher and was used on special teams, Fangio decided to move Baun to outside linebacker and it paid off. Baun had 3.5 sacks, four pass deflections, one interception, five forced fumbles, and 151 total tackles. On top of that, he had two INTs in the playoffs, including one in the Super Bowl.

Baun is expected to make $15 million a year, which would most likely cost the Eagles Sweat and Williams. However, one NFL insider predicts the Birds could offset their losses by signing this nine-time Pro Bowl EDGE rusher.

NFL insider predicts Philadelphia Eagles will sign three-time All-Pro

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz believes the Eagles will end up signing Khalil Mack, a three-time All-Pro and 2016 Defensive Player of the Year.

“If Josh Sweat leaves and Brandon Graham retires, the Eagles are going to need some pass rush help. This seems like the perfect place for a well-regarded veteran to chase a championship ring, so let’s put the 34-year-old Mack here,” noted Schatz.

Mack was voted to his ninth Pro Bowl in 2024, but his numbers declined across the board from the year prior with the Los Angeles Chargers.

“He dropped from 17.0 to 6.0 sacks, and his pass rush win rate dropped slightly from 13.8% to 13.0%. He had 53 pressures in 2023 but 41 pressures in 2024. Despite these drops, there’s still a lot of pass-rushing talent here, and the Eagles can use Mack as more of a rotational, targeted player,” Schatz added.

With the way the Eagles rotate their defensive line personnel, Mack wouldn’t be overused and would still have gas left in the tank.

The Eagles have been linked to defensive stalwart Myles Garrett, but the Cleveland Browns keep insisting they won’t be trading Garrett despite his demand.

If the Birds can’t land Garrett, Mack wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize. Over 11 NFL seasons, the future Hall of Famer has recorded 107.5 sacks, 142 tackles for loss, and 185 QB hits.

The drama surrounding Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns shows no signs of ending.

Garrett, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year and four-time All-Pro, wants out of Cleveland. During his eight seasons, he’s made the playoffs just twice while enduring both an 0-16 rookie campaign and last year’s 3-14 disaster. Meanwhile, the Browns committed $230 million guaranteed to Deshaun Watson, who has become the league’s worst quarterback.

“Speaking with the management at the Browns, I don’t feel like our future is aligned with winning right now,” Garrett told ESPN’s “NFL Countdown” on Super Bowl Sunday. “And that’s what I’m looking forward to do at this stage of my career.”

However, as of now, the Browns have no intention of honoring that request. General manager Andrew Berry reiterated to reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis that they won’t trade Garrett, and head coach Kevin Stefanski stated that the defensive stalwart will be part of the franchise’s future.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported Thursday that Garrett is “not open to” a contract extension with the Browns and has “slammed the door shut on negotiations.”

According to ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi, the Browns received the message when they met with Garrett’s representatives at the combine.

The Browns could get a massive haul for Garrett, including at least two first-round picks to help rebuild a franchise that desperately needs an overhaul. However, maintaining their current stance accomplishes little if Garrett is determined to leave.

Garrett still has two years remaining on the five-year, $125 million extension he signed with the Browns that runs through the 2026 season. However, he has no guaranteed money left on his contract.

It was a quick Super Bowl celebration for the Philadelphia Eagles as they have now officially moved on to offseason priorities.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Birds have $22.3 million in cap space for 2025 with several key championship pieces hitting free agency in All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun, defensive end Josh Sweat, defensive tackle Milton Williams, and offensive lineman Mekhi Becton.

The Eagles will also look to add some cap space by reworking contracts and releasing aging veterans.

With the potential departures of Sweat, Brandon Graham to retirement, and Bryce Huff if cut/traded, the Birds will need to beef up the EDGE position either through the 2025 NFL Draft or trade.

One potential acquisition could be a former Defensive Player of the Year who is looking for a new home, but Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has poured cold water on a trade happening for Philadelphia.

Speaking to reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Roseman wouldn’t specifically answer a question about Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett, who has requested a trade. But when asked about the parameters to make a trade for a player of Garrett’s profile in regards to age, position, and roster construction, it doesn’t sound like the four-time All-Pro will be coming to the City of Brotherly Love.

“Anytime that you’re talking about giving up a high pick and a lot of money for a player, it’s also got to fit where you are as a team. It’s got to fit where you are from a cap perspective, all those things have to match up. And so we look at all those,” Roseman told The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane.

“There’s a lot of attractive items out there, you know, and we spend a lot of time talking about every position and every good player, and we’re selfish. We want everyone, but at the end of the day, it’s just not the position we’re in right now.”

The Eagles have been considered one of the favorites to land Garrett in a trade. However, Browns general manager Andrew Berry reiterated Tuesday that they will not trade Garrett.

“We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns,” Berry told ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi. “… We don’t have an interest in trading Myles.”

If Garrett remains unavailable and Sweat leaves, the Eagles could try to bring in the likes of Malcolm Koonce or Khalil Mack through free agency.

The Washington Commanders are a sleeper team no more after falling one game short of the Super Bowl.

Led by young star quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Offensive Rookie of the Year, the Commanders finished 12-5, upset the NFC’s No. 1 seed Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round, before falling to eventual Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game.

No one saw this success coming so quickly after the Commanders finished 4-13 and last in the NFC East in 2023.

However, selecting Daniels No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, bringing in new head coach Dan Quinn, and Dan Snyder finally giving up ownership, revitalized a franchise that was downtrodden for decades.

Now, the Commanders are looking to make a major push as they emerge as favorites to land a four-time All-Pro defensive player.

According to The Athletic, the Commanders are favorites to trade for Cleveland Browns defensive superstar Myles Garrett, with FanDuel odds at +300.

Garrett, who has requested a trade from the Browns, would be an ideal fit for the Commanders as they look to make the leap to championship contender.

“I think Washington’s offer is best given that Cleveland also needs youth across its offensive line. Washington would be betting that the 2026 first-rounder would again be a late pick, but I think the Browns certainly would want a 2026 first-round selection,” writes The Athletic’s Zac Jackson. “The Commanders might get it done if they’d also throw in a late 2026 pick and take cornerback Greg Newsome II and his fully guaranteed $13 million 2025 fifth-year option off the Browns’ hands (and books).”

The Athletic suggests a trade package of 2025 and 2026 first-round picks, along with offensive tackle Brandon Coleman and defensive tackle Daron Payne could complete the deal.

Garrett would significantly improve a Commanders defense that ranked 13th overall in the NFL last season and finished 12th with 43 sacks. Garrett alone recorded 14 sacks in 2024.

In eight seasons with Cleveland, Garrett has amassed 102.5 sacks, 116 tackles for loss, 200 quarterback hits, 20 forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries.

It’s officially “Howie Season” for the Philadelphia Eagles as they enter the offseason coming off their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history.

After their 2023 collapse, general manager Howie Roseman rebuilt the roster into a championship team. Key additions included running back Saquon Barkley, linebacker Zack Baun, right guard Mekhi Becton, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and rookie cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

The moves paid off spectacularly. Barkley earned Offensive Player of the Year honors with a historic season. Baun emerged as an All-Pro linebacker, while Becton helped to solidify one of the NFL’s top offensive lines. Gardner-Johnson brought leadership and intensity to the secondary as both Mitchell and DeJean finished as Defensive Rookie of the Year finalists.

The Eagles currently have just over $18 million in cap space, with the NFL salary cap expected to rise between $277 million and $281 million. Roseman faces decisions on several key players, including Baun, Becton, defensive end Josh Sweat, and defensive tackle Milton Williams.

Now, the Eagles appear poised for another major move.

According to The Athletic, Philadelphia has the second-best FanDuel odds (+450) to acquire four-time All-Pro and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns, trailing only the Washington Commanders (+300). Garrett has requested a trade, expressing his desire to join a Super Bowl contender.

“[T]he Eagles have their cornerbacks of the future, Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, on rookie contracts and a young defensive line with inexpensive contracts,” notes The Athletic’s Jess Bryant. “Much of Philly’s money is tied up on offense with Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Saquon Barkley and company. Eagles Vice President Howie Roseman is known for this type of deal, and Garrett would love to join a Super Bowl-ready team. Philadelphia would likely have to give up one or two first-rounders and let Josh Sweat walk in free agency, but it could happen.”

After trading Haason Reddick to the New York Jets, the Eagles’ signing of Bryce Huff has been a bust, as he was left inactive for the Super Bowl. Adding Garrett to a defensive front featuring Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, and Jalyx Hunt could transform them into an unstoppable unit.

In eight Cleveland seasons, Garrett has amassed 102.5 sacks, 116 tackles for loss, 200 quarterback hits, 20 forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries.

The NFL fined Browns defensive end Myles Garrett $25,000 for comments he made criticizing officials, Cleveland.com reported Saturday.

Following last Sunday’s 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Garrett didn’t hold back when talking with reporters after the game.

“The officiating was a travesty today,” Garrett said. “It was honestly awful. And the fact that they’re letting them get away with hands to the face, holding, false starting — I know they called a couple, but damn, they could have called it all game. And (there was) the one that cost us down on the 2-yard line.”

The Browns were penalized eight times for 75 yards. Officials flagged the Jaguars seven times for 40 yards.

“I mean, respect to those guys, it’s a hard job, but hell, we have a hard job as well,” Garrett said of the officials. “You can’t make it harder by throwing holding and hands to the face out (of) the rulebook. And like I said, I got a lot of respect for those guys, but we get scrutinized for the plays that we don’t make. So someone has to hold them accountable for the plays or the calls they don’t make. And they need to be under the same kind of microscope as we are every single play.”

Garrett, 27, is in his seventh NFL season, all with the Browns. He twice has been named first-team All-Pro.
